About Us: A What's The 411 Snapshot

Our Story

What’s The 411TV is a division of What’s The 411 Networks, an independent entertainment, sports, and lifestyle media network creating events and content for TV, and for digital media platforms such as podcasts, social media, YouTube, Vimeo, and Amazon's Alexa Flash Briefing.

Located in New York City, the media capital of the world, What’s The 411TV, is geographically positioned to obtain content for its the award-winning, entertainment, and lifestyle news and information television show, What’s The 411What’s The 411Sports; and What’s The 411Business.

The Backstory

What's The 411 Networks established its roots in television production in 1993, producing its flagship television show, What's The 411, a weekly entertainment news program. Distributed on WNYC-TV, a broadcast television station previously owned by the City of New York, What's The 411 entertained millions of households in the New York metro area (NYC, Nassau, western Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam and Dutchess counties, northern New Jersey, Fairfield Connecticut, and as far west as Reading Pennsylvania).

What's Networks later licensed its programming to a broadcaster in South Africa.

During its initial run, What's The 411 entertained millions of households in the New York metro area with interviews of some of the hottest celebrities of the time, including Eddie Murphy, Mary J. BligeBrandyAnita Baker, SWV, Brian McKnight, Boyz II Men, Freedom Williams, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Morgan Freeman, Susan Sarandon, Meryl Streep, Damon DashRussell Simmonsand others.

In 2006, the producers of What's The 411 made a business decision to shut the program down.

A New Beginning

Then, in 2010, with the progression of digital media, a decision was made to restart What's The 411 Networks with a new focus. The company brought back What's The 411 with a new format and new branding. 

With a good number of interviews with sports professionals and professional athletes, in 2013, What's The 411 Networks decided to create What's The 411Sports, a weekly sports news, and commentary television show. It also created a new division, What's The 411TV, to focus on television programming and podcast development. What's The 411TV's podcasts can be heard on Apple Podcast, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, TuneIn, and Amazon's Alexa Flash Briefing.

What's The 411Sports' library of interviews with professional athletes and sports figures include Magic JohnsonSerena Williams, LeBron James, Willis Reed, Venus Williams, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Victor Cruz, baseball Hall of Famers, and, of course, players from the Brooklyn Nets, and more.

In 2014, What's The 411 won its first award from Brooklyn Public Television for news and information.

Looking Ahead

As What's The 411 Networks looks into the future, it sees the creation of a documentary focused on the early days of What's The 411 and additional programming.
